My background is as a qualified Product Designer and for over 20 years I was a member of the Institute of Engineering Designers.

My major experience is in the utilities construction section where I rose to the position of Computer Aided Design Manager for Hyder Consulting Ltd in Cardiff.

I was instrumental in introducing 3D draughting techniques to Hyder Consulting Ltd, utilising AutoCAD, Rebis AutoPlant suite (3D Plant Design) and 3D Studio MAX (Solid Modelling Visualisation software). My position in Hyder Consulting Ltd is where I developed my managerial and contractual skills being involved in all major contracts within Hyder Consulting Ltd, Cardiff for utilities clients such as Dwr Cymru Welsh Water, Thames Water, Wessex Water and Scottish Power.

In 2004, I made a vocational transition into the new Hyder Asbestos department where I was a participating member in achieving UKAS survey accreditation for Hyder Consulting Ltd.

I quickly became Lead Surveyor and was involved in most major projects involving a mix of Type 2 and Type 3 surveys to MDHS100 specifications. Projects include several large frontline MOD RAF and USAF establishments, a major quantity of London Hackney Borough schools, Cardiff Docklands and a significant proportion of Dwr Cymru Welsh Water assets, mainly to MDHS100 type 2 but also including HSG264 management surveys. The other most significant project consists of 26No. MDHS100 type 3 surveys of major structures on the Olympic Park site in East London. I also acted as Asbestos Clerk of Works Clients Representative for works to The Old War Office, Whitehall, London and Swansea SA1 docklands development.

I possess BOHS P402, P403, P404, P405 and P406 Qualifications.

I recently undertook a secondment role as the Asbestos Clerk of Works at the University of Bristol on the refurbishment of a Grade 2 Listed building.
